The Most Important Chinese Characters on the Final Degree Certificate
The most important Chinese characters found on the final degree certificate show the degree was awarded (学位). Graduation Certificates (毕业证书) from the early- to mid-1990s and prior frequently contain these necessary characters.
Graduation Certificates Issued After the Early- To Mid-1990s
Graduation Certificates issued after the early- to mid-1990s typically do not use the characters (学位) showing the degree was awarded. The document does not verify completion of all the requirements necessary for the award of the degree. Based on these types of credentials, FIS is limited to evaluating the U.S. equivalent of credit level completion of university-level credit/graduate-level credit.
Verifying the Degree Was Awarded is Absolutely Necessary
Occasionally letters from universities issued in both Chinese and English that include the necessary characters (学位) verifying the degree was awarded can be evaluated toward a degree equivalency. Documents or letters verifying the degree was awarded is absolutely necessary for us to reach a full degree equivalency.
Transcripts Do Not Include the Necessary Language
FIS is not able to reach full degree equivalencies based on transcripts alone. Transcripts do not include the necessary language verifying the degree was awarded. They are useful for indicating the dates of attendance and for calculating U.S. cumulative grade point averages.
FIS Requires the Original Chinese Language Version of the Documents
In each case FIS requires the original Chinese language version of the documents in addition to English translations. For your convenience FIS offers translation services. We also accept translations from outside sources.
